Library is the repository of knowledge and is the spine of any academic institution. It is an essential component of an institute’s outstanding research and education mission. It not only inculcates the habit of reading but stimulates a deeper quest for knowledge among users as well. It is also an integral and important part of any academic institution of higher learning and provides a wide range of information resources to support the academic activities. The Kumari Vidyavati Aanand DAV College for Women recognises the importance of the library and firmly believes that quality education is impossible without a qualitative library. Our college library is one of the best academic libraries, equipped with ICT facilities and a rich collection of printed books from great thinkers, philosophers, scientist, and literary scholars as well as electronic resources. Our library provides a safe, comfortable and friendly environment to students and teaching faculty that enables them to learn about advancement of knowledge, and promotes discovery and scholarship. At present, we have a well-stocked collection of 54334 texts and reference books on different subjects, latest publications in the fields of Science, Commerce, Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences are continuously added to the collection. It is also stocked with 372 CD/DVD‘S, 25 Magazines (monthly) and 9 National and State Newspapers (daily) that are also subscribed in the library. These books and periodicals are well organized in 140 almirahs according to Dewey Decimal Classification scheme. To make the library user-friendly, it has been computerized with LIMT software. All the sections like circulation, cataloguing, acquisition and periodical are computerized. The whole library collection is bar coded that helps in automated circulation and stock verification. Four computers are placed in the library for efficient daily library work. Our library has Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. It also caters the information required by patrons, by offering a wide range of Information Technology (IT) based (and value added) services and products. Library users can access the Web-OPAC anywhere anytime and a link to this has been provided on the college website. It has seating capacity of around 140 users at a time. A large number of the students and faculty visit the library regularly. Stock verification is an annual feature and is done periodically by the verification team appointed by the principal also.

Library Location and Library timings

Principal Mela Ram ji ‘Barq’ library is located on the first floor in Administrative Building and easily accessible to all users. Library remains open during the college hours i.e. 9.00 a.m. to 4 p.m. (six days in a week).  Library also remains open during the summer and winter break. Sunday and holidays are closed.

UGC Network Resource Centre

We have subscribed online e-resources through N-LIST INFLIBNET and provide links to access the Major Programmes and Major Projects offered by Inflibnet centre. UGC Network Resource Centre maintained by the library also provides access to wide range of free educational e-resources (e-books, e-journals and databases etc.) and back volume of e-resources procures and provided on the demand of users in the printed form. We provide links to access the various OER’s like Virtual Libraries, Open Textbook Projects/Portals, Open Online Courses/Video Lectures, Open online Learning Tools and Archives. Library also give access to links of National Mission on Education through ICT: National Digital Library of India, ShodhSindhu, Shodhganga, e-PG Pathshala, NPTEL, Virtual Labs, SWAYAM, SWAYAM Prabha, VIDWAN and etc. through college website. This facility is available to students and teachers for their study as well as for research work. Login ID and password is shared with students on Orientation Programme in the beginning of every session and time to time information given to each and every user.

Library Activities:

  • Orientation Programme: Orientation Programme is conducted in the beginning of every session; the newly appointed staff and students are explained about the library and how to use the library services for study and personal development. This programme brings awareness about the library and its facilities.
  • Sale: Annually sale of old recreational magazines is a regular feature of library. It is for staff and students.
  • Book Exhibition: The library organizes display of books out of existing collection on a particular subject to maximize the use of collection in the library. The library also invites publishers to exhibit their books on career, personality development and on others subjects.
  • World Book Fair: Library also organizes the visit to World Book Fair for staff.
  • Workshop and Extention lecture: Library also organises Workshops and Extention lectures to deliver information regarding using of E-resources for the benefit of users.
  • Trip: Trip to Parliament library for students.
  • Several Competitions like Extempore Competition and Power Point Competition are organized by library.
